Welcome to the I Felt Pretty blog.
My name is Rebecca and I have been needle felting since last August. I stumbled upon it quite by chance while searching on the internet for something else and it got me intrigued, so I bought a kit, made a little Westie for my Mum and have been hooked ever since. I love crafts where you start with a product and totally transform it.
I also have a great love for Teddy Bears and decided to make my first one about 10 years ago. The thought of cutting in to my first piece of mohair terrified me so I ended up using a piece of velvet instead. She now sits proudly under a little glass dome in my Mum’s Sitting Room. (You’ll see a bit of a pattern forming here, many of my creations end up living with my Mum.)
I often visit the Ayrshire Craft Fairs in Troon and, knowing that they were fully booked for the rest of the year, decided to enquire about being vetted for next years fairs. I passed the vetting stage and was offered a cancellation for the June Fair. This gave me less than 2 months to make enough stock to fill a stall!!! I work fulltime and have a husband and 2 children so I knew it was going to be a tall order but I decided to finally go for it and turn one of my hobbies in to a small business.
It has been a frantic couple of months but, with a lot of help from my Mum, a very patient family and my Dads woodworking skills, I have a stall and, more importantly, some things to put on it. Hopefully I will sell some things and get a feel for what to make for the next one.
So if anyone is looking for a nice day out on Saturday 9th June come along to Troon Concert Hall between 11am and 4.30pm, there are loads of fantastic crafters selling their wares.
I’ll be back soon to update you on how I get on and to show you some of the things that I am going to be selling at future fairs and maybe on Folksy.
